Brief background: Fay is a prince of Valeria along with his twin brother Yuui. Their country considered the birth of twins a great misfortune – coupled with the fact that the twins possess great magic power that rivalled the current emperor- and they were blamed for the calamities that thereon happened to Valeria. Their father died, leading their mother to commit suicide from guilt. While still very young – perhaps around 3-5 in appearance- the twins were given the choice to either have one of them killed or to be locked in a valley where sinner’s bodies were thrown, magic couldn’t be used and time didn’t flow. The reason for this being the emperor stated killing the twins would bring more misfortune, so they must keep them alive but make the twins unhappy. The twins unhesitatingly refused to kill each other and were therefore thrown into the valley; Fay being imprisoned in the tower there and Yuui down below with the bodies. A great time appears to have passed while the twins were there; as we see them becoming more emaciated and ragged, as well as their hair growing much longer. Also, we see their attitudes change, as Yuui is desperately determined to reach and free Fai in the beginning, but becomes more hopeless as time goes on. Fay watched over his brother’s struggles from the tower, and suffers as he sees his brother in pain. It soon comes to light that the emperor has gone insane and has killed everyone in the country, as more bodies pile up in the valley, before jumping in himself and committing suicide before Yuui. Before he dies, he once more reminds Yuui of his sins and claims that this is all his fault; this leads to Yuui becoming nearly mad with guilt and horror, and questioning why it was a sin they were born. During this time, Fay can only watch from the tower, and is desperate to help his brother. Seeing Yuui like this, and hearing him say such things, Fay’s resolve hardens and he wants nothing more than to free him brother. He also blames himself; thinking that if he had died than Yuui would not have to suffer so much and live this way. Therefore when FWR appears and allows him to choose one of the twins to go free, at the expense of the other’s life, Fay is unwavering and determined that his brother should survive. Fay is therefore thrown from the tower and killed. Personality: Not much is known about Fay in canon; however there are certain aspects of his personality that are clear. He is very devoted to his brother, and wants nothing more than his happiness; even at the expense of his own. Though the twins are both strong and have suffered greatly, Fay seems to be the more determined one – probably as an effect of having to watch his brother question his existence and blame himself. We can tell from this that he is also vastly kind and loyal, at least when it comes to his twin. Fay himself has also been hurt by his past, as and has lost hope in life for himself; as he states over and over again ‘I want to die.’ However the strongest of his wishes is still to free his brother. | |||||||||
